My Next Guest: Volodymyr Zelenskyy (2022, IMDb: 8.2)

David Letterman’s “My Next Guest” Netflix specials have featured a lot of big name celebrities, from George Clooney to Billie Eilish. In his latest episode, a very special guest sits down with Letterman for an interesting and insightful conversation. Letterman travels to war torn Kyiv, Ukraine to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Together they discuss the impact of war with Russia, the economy and relations with the Western world. As we wrap up 2022, this new release is more important than ever to watch right now.

Netflix

Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio (2022, IMDb: 7.9)

Guillermo Del Toro’s adaptation of Pinocchio has quickly become a favorite among fans and critics, earning the movie a nomination at the upcoming Emmy awards. Although the movie centers around the story of a magical wooden boy, Del Toro puts his own twists on the classic, making it his own in a sense. This stop-motion animated movie is the perfect new release to watch with your family for Christmas.

Netflix

Who Killed Santa? A Murderville Murder Mystery (2022, IMDb: 6.8)

This is a new TV special of the entertaining and funny Murderville show featuring Will Arnett. Like all episodes in the past, this hour-long special is made up on the spot. In other words, stars Jason Bateman and Lilian Bowden have not been given any scripts and must improvise the entire thing. This leads to wicked and crazy dialogues and indeed very funny moments. They have to figure out who killed Santa while not knowing what happens next. In short, a relaxing and fun time.

Emancipation (2022, IMDb: 5.7)

This new release could see Will Smith earn another Oscar nomination for best performance in a leading role…which would be a tad awkward. A slap in the face, maybe. Anyways, he plays Peter, a runaway slave who escapes captivity from plantation owners that nearly killed him. The story is based on the real life of ‘Whipped Peter’, a man who survived a whipping that left his body completely mutilated. Shot in black and white, it is an intense but great movie. Ignore the low IMDb rating, this is definitely a new release worth watching!

Apple TV+

Slow Horses - Season 2 (2022, IMDb: 7.8)

The first season of Slow Horses was good, seriously good. Starring Gary Oldman and Kristin Scott Thomas, the anticipated second season has finally started airing. The story follows a team of British intelligence agents who serve as a dumping ground department of M15 due to their career-ending mistakes. It’s not often book nerds admit a film or TV adaptation is better than the book itself, but that is the case with Slow Horses. If you haven’t watched the first season yet, it is well worth watching. After that, you can enjoy the second season straight away. A great new release to binge-watch this Christmas.

Apple TV+

Three Pines (2022-, IMDb: 7.3)

Three Pines is a crime-mystery drama that will probably go under the radar, which makes it really interesting. This new release follows Chief Inspector Armand Gamache as he investigates what appears to be a row of connected murder cases in a creepy Quebec village. The show is slow-paced but also a slow burner, with an interesting and mysterious plot. Engaging, nasty types of characters will keep you hooked from the get go, making this new release a perfect contender for a weekend binge-watching session.

Something From Tiffany’s (2022, IMDb: 6.3)

Is it even Christmas without watching at least one cheesy, christmas-y romcom? Of course not! Not a day too late, Something From Tiffany’s has arrived and it brings exactly what we need. The story follows a woman as her life gets upended when an engagement ring that was meant for someone else leads her to the person she’s meant to be with. Family-friendly, heartfelt and cute, this movie is the perfect new release to lift your Christmas spirits.
