Starting off this list is this classic from director David Fincher. If you haven’t watched Fight Club yet, you have some serious homework to do. The story follows an insomniac office worker and his relationship with a completely different character and soap maker. Together they start an underground fight club that soon spirals out of control. There really isn’t anything else to say - one of the best movies ever made to put it simply.
The Martian (2015, IMDb: 8.0)
Setting foot on Mars is a reality we may get to experience in our lifetime. In this thrilling adventure sci-fi, astronauts and NASA have started exploring the red dusty planet. But when a sudden storm breaks, one of the astronauts becomes stranded on Mars when his team assumes him dead. He must then rely on his ingenuity to return to Earth all while fighting the elements on our neighboring planet. Directed by Ridley Scott and starring names such as Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain and Jeff Daniels, you know this is a great movie.
Avatar (2009, IMDb: 7.9)
With Avatar: The Way Of Water premiering a couple of weeks ago, the first Avatar serves as a great reminder as to why we fell in love with Pandora and the Na’vi in the first place. If there was ever a time to rewatch the first movie, it is now. The story follows Jake Sully, a disabled marine sent on a unique mission to infiltrate the natives on a distant world. Nostalgic, thrilling and heartfelt, this is one of the best movies to watch on Disney+ right now.
Wall-E (2008, IMDb: 8.4)
Back in 2008, we were blessed when Disney and Pixar released this animated adventure. Wall-E is truly one of the best animated movies ever released. It carries a heartfelt message while also criticizing our unsustainably ways of living on this planet. Set in the distant future, a small waste-collecting robot embarks on a journey in space that will ultimately decide the fate of mankind. Fans have dubbed it a modern day sci-fi masterpiece, and we agree. Definitely one of the best movies on Disney+ right now.
The Help (2011, IMDb: 8.1)
Based on Kathryn Stockett’s book, The Help is set in Mississippi during the 1960s when a southern society girl returns home from college. Determined to become a writer, she does the unthinkable and interviews black women who have spent their lives as maids and taking care of white families. To summarize, an equally beautiful and emotional movie that everybody should watch at least once.
The Revenant (2015, IMDb: 8.0)
Leonardo DiCaprio has starred in a ton of great movies, but his performance in The Revenant was the one that saw him finally win his first Oscar. The story takes place during a frontiersman fur trading expedition in the 1820s. When he is brutally attacked by a bear and left by his team, he must utilize his survival skills to find a way back home. This is a slow-burner of visual poetry and intense acting. In other words, a seriously good movie to watch on Disney+.
Deadpool (2016, IMDb: 8.0)
Earlier this year, Ryan Reynolds announced that Deadpool will be returning for a third time. The first Deadpool movie still holds up as one of the best action-hero movies around. Add Reynolds' twisted sense of humor, and you get a great comedy-adventure-action flick. The story follows Wade Wilson, a former Special Forces operative who, after being subjected to a rogue experiment, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. This is an absolutely hilarious addition to the superhero-genre and definitely one of the best movies on Disney+.
